Last month I had the honor of facilitating a panel discussion entitled “Bridging Campus and Community: Fostering Reciprocal Partnerships for Meaningful Engagement” presented by UC San Diego’s Changemaker Institute. The workshop was a pre-conference event for the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement (IARSLCE) 2024 Conference.
We had an engaging discussion about the opportunities and challenges of community engagement, the benefits of collaborating with community organizations/community organizers, building trust between universities and community organizations, and best practices for preparing students to collaborate with communities.
